Luminate Shaping sound for boundary-pushing music



Luminate is a concert platform launched in 2018 at Kings Place (London), quickly earning a reputation for its boundary-pushing music and performances. The platform has featured renowned artists such as Suzanne Ciani, Arooj Aftab, Lonnie Holley, Circuit des Yeux, and Space Afrika. The concept behind the series is a multi-generational celebration of radical sonic experimentation. Each artist on the programme pushes sonic boundaries and defies genre conventions, with many using the immersive soundscape system at Kings Place to feature in their performances.

Design and strategy

The new branding system for Luminate Festival (2023) needed to engage a diverse audience, appealing to fans of both seminal artists as well as emerging young talent. A moody, atmospheric design was developed within the new graphic system, featuring grainy backgrounds and a flexible set of geometric patterns. These patterns serve as dynamic photo containers, creating a cohesive visual language across both print and digital platforms.

First launched in July 2023 for the Luminate Festival, the branding was refreshed in November 2023 for the year-long Luminate series. A set of new gradient backgrounds and geometric textures were introduced, to use across different formats and media.
